Keppel Public Housing
KPB: CITY LIVING CLOSE TO NATURE ABUNDANT GREEN SPACES RICH HISTORY & HERITAGE (Concept Proposal)
Rolling out the 1st wave of transformation of the Greater Southern Waterfront into a new major gateway and choice location for urban living, Keppel SkyView is envisioned to become a highly livable precinct immersed in rich and abundant natural environment while being sensitive to Nature, to fully embrace the ‘City in Nature’ vision.
Facing the waterfront with panoramic views to Sentosa and the Keppel Marina, and backed by the hill parks along Southern Ridges, Keppel SkyView will feature 2 landmark 50-storey residential blocks and another 8 blocks stepping down with cascading roof gardens towards the surrounding green corridors. Generous wide vistas are opened up through the development in both N-S and E-W directions to allow high porosity, good natural ventilation and orchestrated scenic views to the waterfront and lush greenery of Labrador Park.
Rising out of the rich verdant greenery, the 10 residential blocks composed in the 3-winged layout reaches to the sky in undulating and cascading forms to create a quietly subtle presence over the Keppel district, unique in a simple composition of modular forms inspired by the Shorea winged-fruit. The 3-wing layout allows maximum views to the waterfront and hill parks while avoiding any direct overlooking between units. Despite the high intensification of the site, generous ground spaces have been created to foster community engagement and activate fitness and recreation. This green extension is achieved by opening up a wide expanse of green spaces towards the proposed Green Corridors and seamlessly integrating them to create critical masses of greenery, enriching biodiversity and spaces for Nature appreciation and enjoyment.
As a habitat and stepping stone for birds between Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park up north and Labrador Nature Reserve, Sentosa and Southern Islands, the development site will be enhanced and designed with great sensitivity to safeguard the existing ecological and avian connectivity for integration with the new community and encourage stewardship. On top of the 10ha of green spaces provided in the form of Green Corridors (including a new Berlayer Creek Nature Park that will serve to buffer and extend the mangroves), another 2.34ha of green spaces is provided inside the development to seamlessly extend the green landscape, promote greater biodiversity through new habitat creation and to enrich the wildlife highway teeming with Nature.
