MB Integrated Cruise Centre

MBCPC: We were inspired by the water lily, with its references to tropical gardens and imagined that the MBCFC could be like a super scaled “floating” lily pad, set against the garden-like environment of Marina South. We envisioned the roof to be the largest urban solar photo-voltaic (PV) roof in the world, showcasing Singapore’s ambition to lead the global sustainability movement, capturing the imagination of next gen green buildings. (Concept Proposal)

Our vision for the future Straits View Integrated Cruise Ferry Terminal (MBCFC), proposed to be renamed Marina Bay Cruise & Ferry Centre (MBCFC) is simple – to give STB and Singapore the hardware it needs to fulfil our collective ambition of becoming the world’s most desired cruise and tourism destination. By incorporating best-in-class berthing facilities, with convenient access to MICE venues and tourism sites across the island, the future MBCFC will showcase operational and design excellence and offer an efficient and comfortable passenger experience that gives visitors an unforgettable first impression of the Passion Made Possible in Singapore.

In conjunction with the state-of-the-art terminal facilities, we recognise that this building, being an exceptional Gateway in scale and function unlike innately self-referencing Landmarks, is altruistic at heart.  This is an opportunity to provide a future community asset along the waterfront that is not realized in the existing coastal development.  Every heralded global waterfront carefully blends the working waterfront with community aspirations to feel a part of the shoreline.  The larger vision for the Marina Bay district is to cater to a multipurpose mix of users and create a vibrant local community of visitors.  To achieve this, there must be unique and diverse uses along the waterfront to active it at all hours and to make it feel approachable and full of energy.  That energy feeds community attraction and creates a synergy that will enliven the space, make the waterfront feel welcoming and safe and result in even greater activity.  As the current coastal developments along the strait were not programmed to serve this function and successful waterfronts have been found to need these interventions within easy walking distance of each other to sustain activity, the MBCFC must perform extra-duty in this regard which is achieved in our world-class solution.  Even in its early life, we expect this project to give off a vibe as the “place to be” for locals and visitors alike – to enter the pantheon of mod-named structures that have defined the Marina Bay district.   “Let’s meet by the Pearl!”

We thus envisage this building engaging and embracing the public realm. It is not simply an iconic vessel through which both local and international passengers move through, but also a destination, a City in a Garden, where people are invited to relax and play; its form is moulded by meaningful gestures that relate itself to the city as well as the collective memory and aspirations of its people and with recollection of marine-life elements that remind us of its higher purpose; it is a place where people gather and connect, relationships are forged and where locals and global travellers alike will pause, appreciate, contemplate and enjoy an experience Uniquely Singapore!
