Xi’An is a contemporary city with more than a very long history and memories. The ancient legends of PanGu & 4 mythical beasts, wooden porticos and the terracotta army had their origin in Xi’An. Silk Road also has the starting point in Xi’An. Now, the future and direction of Xi’An is to become an International City after being named as 1 of the 13 emerging megacities in China in 2012. The concept of the design proposal is about the integration of modern and tradition design elements. This is derived from the fact that Xi’An has very long history but is also an emerging megacity hence see as a force to link the past with the future. The driving force behind the site master planning uses the concept of Chinese Courtyard House (四合院) where the square is surrounded by buildings and the important block (the main hall in this case) is placed in the centre of the planning layout.
