"A Notion of Access,The Artery of Destination" –Axis to the Artery
“Design environmental determinism has been a belief that changes in the form of an urban can lead to a major change in the public’s haviour,” Amos (1945). The proposal redetermines the functionalism of the traditional gateway to an artery plaza upon the arrival, followed by the “Possibilism” of creating a scenery of activities, and “Probabilism” of shaping the public perception towards the gateway, ultimately.

Q-City Compeition 2021 - Tangshan, China
Strolling in Art-scapes 邻街雅巷,缓缓相遇
Grown as a cradle of modern industry in China, Tangshan is moving to the verge of transformation into an urban quarter to advocates quality living. The notion of quality living within a city has always closely related to its urban space, which transcends beyond functionalism but rather people-oriented and experiential driven in the contemporary era. They are inherently a reflection of regional spirituality, native commemoration, and daily transit of the community. In light of this, we seek to create a quality urban space amidst the rapid urbanism, amongst the industrial-intensive urbanity of Tangshan.Attracted by the verticality of the water tower that stands out from its surrounding and the vitality of the conjuncture of streets, the Abandoned Water Tower (Plot 03) has become the selected site for this project. It embodies the potential to integrate a series of urban features that complement an odyssey leads to the tower as culmination spot. Reacting towards the gradually densified and stressed urban living, these urban features could be a pacemaker, slowing down the tempo to rediscover the consciousness to the urbanscape and a sense of wonder of the passerby. This odyssey shall triumph as a journey of wellness, analogous to a lifeline to search for rejuvenation of one-self from a fast-paced urban lifestyle.Parallel to the concept of a territory of wellness, the design is originated from the idea of Four Arts in Chinese tradition, including the music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, which usually portrays self-composure and inner peace. These arts are being reinterpreted into taxonomy of streetscapes with various qualities: Soundscape, Funscape, Wisescape, and Viewscape. They come as a diverse totality, resembles the serial imageability of the wall, flooring, canopy, and pillar. They unified with the people’s territory, their daily rendezvous, and ended with the restored tower. By redefining the habitual traces of the community situated amidst the urban axial nave, the lifeline become a pause, a relief, and a fresh breath to the city.

Architectural Competition for Proposed Mixed-Use Development Comprising Association Building with Community and Health Services Hub at Geylang Lorong 18.
An Invitation into the Hakka's Community –House of the HAKKA
Reference to the feature of the Hakka architecture, the communal space and strong community bond and spirit are picked up. The intent of the design is to reflect this sense of community with the spatial design.
The design outcome aims to build a strong community for the users. This is in sync with the aspiration of the association and is also reflected in the usage. The association building, other than having spaces for self-use, also devotes spaces for community and health facilities. These usages are complementary to the design intent and can help to generate a sense of belonging and community with the right spaces.

TRAA Post-Pandemic Housing Design Competition
GAPS: Disconnect To Connect
Inevitably, the pandemic outbreak had us to live in a different lifestyle as a new norm. People live with new proximity between one another, keeping a safe and distant ‘gap’ apart physically. Indeed, the social distancing that prevents the spreading of disease should never be ignored, but the social connection in a high-dense urbanity is equally important to individual mental health. This ‘gap’ of social relationship is often latent and ambiguous, is now becoming more prevailing at this critical moment.
Nevertheless, how could we rethink this ‘gap’ to disconnect people as a safety measure, yet connect them socially at the same time? This question forms the overarching foreground of this theoretical proposal, fostering new idea to reconsider the ‘gap’ between people and their living spaces. Taking affordable housing as a template, we anticipate a paradigm shift of collective living in affordable housing from a rigid and organized framework into a self-exploratory odyssey.
Analogous to the game of ‘snakes and ladders’, the architecture provides endless circulation with a series of alternating programme and alternating accessibility which initiate the disconnection within. This disconnection is dominated by a grid system that embraces the ‘gaps’ yet leaves a breathable space for the possibility of re-connection and human interaction. Amidst a gradually compact and fast-paced lifestyle within a city, the ‘gap’ is essentially vital for us to pause, ease, relief, and disconnect to connect once again.

Young Architects Competition (YAC)
the integration of modern and traditionXi'AN Train Station
Xi’An is a contemporary city with more than a very long history and memories. The ancient legends of PanGu & 4 mythical beasts, wooden porticos and the terracotta army had their origin in Xi’An. Silk Road also has the starting point in Xi’An. Now, the future and direction of Xi’An are to become an International City after being named as 1 of the 13 emerging megacities in China in 2012.
The concept of YUAN is about the integration of modern and traditional design elements. This is derived from the fact that Xi’An has a very long history but is also an emerging megacity hence see as a force to link the past with the future.
The driving force behind the site master planning uses the concept of Chinese Courtyard House (四合院) where the square is surrounded by buildings and the important block (the main hall in this case) is placed in the centre of the planning layout.

VOLZERO: MICRO HOUSING 2019 Competition
A new concept of public housing in Singaporeph-PL
ph-PL is an urban housing concept that proposes a modular unit of houses to slot into a standard pre-built modular structure. With housing units in modules, the owners are able to move their housing unit to a different site with a standard pre-built structure. For example, the standardised pre-build structure which the housing unit can slot into can be built between empty lot in the city area, underneath MRT railway or highway etc. Steel is chosen as the main structural component for the standardised pre-built modular structure to house the housing unit as it is modular yet flexible and fast in the erection. In addition, steel allows a high degree of reusability if the structure is to be removed.

Power-UP Pasir Panjang Competition (URA/SIA)
A Glory forgot by the PublicRecreate the Lights of Red-Brick Power Station
The red brick Power Station “A” at Pasir Panjang was commissioned in 1953, it was Singapore’s second power station. Decommissioned in the early 1980s, and lost its two iconic 235 foot high chimneys in the 1990s. However, it is now blocked by a few industrial buildings next to the main road. It is forgotten by the public.
The intent of the proposal is to re-inhabit the site and the beautiful gem hidden from the public with various new programmes and activities at the power station. The proposal intends to make use of the existing building with minimum alteration to simply refresh the building and function while keeping it as original as possible to allow the visitor to re-live the historic building.

UTP Pocket D: Student Hub & Master Planning Competition (UTP)
REBOND. COMPOUND. NATURE“UTP - V:Bond"
University Teknologi Petronas (UTP) is an engineering-based university located at Tronoh, Perak, with a master planning compromises a “Star-Concept,” which the existing pavilion intersects to form a star shape encircle a central park. The beginning with the concept of “chemical bonding” as a fundamental of every element, as well as the primary identity of UTP – Petronas & Petroleum. The project is named “V-Bond.” The project emphasizes the integrative spaces, which enhance the interaction with students and connects them to nature with a canopy walk, and ground floor landscaping.
“V: Bond” modular is formed from a single module (elements) to the colonies (compound), then integrate with the landscape (mixture), and lastly, the existing building (action-reaction), to complete the overall concept as the innovative student hub for future UTP.
