Chain Through
The Cluster
Chain through the Cluster (CTTC) is an affordable housing proposal for Pantai Dalam, Kerinchi Lembah Pantai. The project believes in public space as the binder; trail linkage as the connector to the community. The focus of the design will be revolving in re-think the public space experience and retain the identity of the site as an urban catalyst for the community in Kerinchi. The project is subdivided into 3 phases – Urban Analysis and Networking, Site Planning, and Vertical Planning.

PRESENTATION
DESIGN CONCEPT
re-Visit the Urban Connectivity
The project started with urban analysis and the Ecological Connectivity Network. According to Amal (2017), his study found that connectivity networks are more relevant if there are ecological linked. In this urban analysis, identifying ecological corridors that integrate different structural and functional connectivity of green space. Assessing connectivity for developing an ecological network by using efficient models is essential to improve these networks under rapid urban expansion.
By using the model from Robby Layton (2015), the urban connectivity network is drawn with the nodes of interval 200m. The node can be pocket stops and place of ecological need for the community within 500m diameter. For example, point A has a food stall, and point B has a daily supply store, the connectivity from residential to point A and B become ecological dependent and need to be enhanced.
The community of Pantai Dalam has voiced out one key element that becomes the factor of the design – their community. The request toward community spaces has higher demand than the design of their unit. This concern sparks the design to focus on the experience of the public space as the binder to the community.
Voice From the Local Community
What they ask for can be just SIMPLE. - a community space.
re-Think the Public Spaces
Wojciech (2015) has concluded that residents’ satisfaction towards public space within the residential area profoundly relate to the sense of identity. “Re-Think” the public spaces for the residential especially is affordable housing project is essential to bring a sense of identity to the local community. The improvement of visual standard and landscape experience to social stabilisation and safety is crucial in the proposal. The proposal has introduced public spaces such as “the Pavilion, the STEPS, the Forest Playpark, etc. to enhance their user experience, thus improve their sense of belonging with minimal cost. The food hall is undoubtedly one of the essential identities of the current site. It connects the public from the bazaar trail from the south to the main road on the north of the site. Community workshop and classroom joint with the SCULPTURE plaza are the places for the community to showcase their craftsmanship. Meanwhile, community gardens and BBQ plaza used as a place to socialise and escape from the highly-dense development area.
